@whirlpool has made progress towards its sustainability goals with its wind energy project. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for their Texas wind farm happened this week, with the help of this wind farm, they are closer to their goal of zero emissions by 2030.
The pilot program @RedwoodMat has been running for a year, they started collecting old EV batteries from Volvo and Ford. The packs were weighing around half a million pounds and showed 95% efficiency in recycling important metals.
As of 2018, this hotel was the largest concrete structure in Philadelphia’s history. It has a nine-foot-thick foundation that covers 20,000 square feet, instead of slag or silica being used, they were able to use Fly Ash.
@washingtonpost has recently posted that the expansion of battery recycling facilities may be happening too soon. @cleantechnica disagrees, however, they do agree that EV batteries that no longer can be used to power EVs, can still be reusable.
Recycling lithium batteries and repurposing them is much more cost-effective. A company called, “@CircularStorage, forecasts around 1.2 million tons of lithium-ion batteries will have reached their end of life by 2030”. This is a huge opportunity for recycling these materials.
